I have been breeding dogs for 31 years. My American Bulldogs come out of lines that love kids. I have grandkids and they play with my dogs, pull ears, faces and tails. My dogs don’t show any signs of not enjoying being made a fuss over by the kids; not a dirty look, showing of teeth or even a growl. I only breed with parents that are kid tested.
My dogs are loyal, brave guardians of their family and property and when seen in public, they stop traffic.
HISTORY
I was born in 1948, in Chickasaw, Mississippi, on a six hundred acre farm owned by my father’s parents and lived in Syracuse, New York from 1961 to 2003. My mother parents lived on a 200 acre farm behind them. I was taught to respect and care for animals since I was a young child. My first puppy was a brown and white (pick of the litter) Pointer named Spote (Spoat). My cousin, Bobby Seals gave him to me when I was 3 years old.
My mother’s parent had a white Bulldog name Homer in the late 1930s. My Aunt Beatrice Syms, who is the family historian, told me a few stories about Homer. She started off by telling me what a good cow dog he was. When they wanted the cows to milk, she would just point them out and Homer would go get them and drive them back to the barn. He also was a watch dog who alerted the family whenever visitors came on the farm.
My mother’s brother, Uncle J Hugh, had severe arthritis and had difficulty walking. Homer would follow him everywhere he went. One day, Uncle J Hugh was picking berries when a stray bull, who had gotten into their pasture, charged him. Homer, without hesitation, chased after the bull and caught him by the ear. The bull would get loose and Homer would grab him again. The first time, he split the bull’s ear. He then grabbed the other ear, sat down and held the bull. My uncle rolled under the barbed wire fence to safety. Another time, Uncle J Hugh encountered a rattle snake. Homer killed the rattler but was bitten pretty bad. His face swelled up. He was treated with a home remedy of lard and sulfur. Homer recovered and was back to work on the farm. My Uncle and Homer was walking a busy road one day. A car hit Homer, who then ran into the woods and wasn’t seen for two weeks. When he came home, it was a jubilant reunion. His stock rose to an all time high. This dog was a legend.
In the early 1950s, my cousin, Marvin had a Bulldog name Pinto. A great and powerful dog, Pinto was a cow, hog, mule and watch dog. He caught cows, hogs and mules and was the toughest dog in the area as well. So when I got my first American Bulldog in 1994, name Spote (Spoat), my mother was real pleased that I had a Bulldog. My Bouvier Des Flandres was well respected by her also, but she had stories to tell about Bulldogs. So the Bouvier Des Flandres was history. To this day the Bulldog is number one in her book.
That being said, we breed dogs that are from traditional working lines, who stop traffic when seen. I show dogs, so I try to have the best looking dogs in the world, who will protect, make great companions, and work when called upon to do so.
